On Thursday, September 25th, 2008 at 7:00 PM three Pennsylvanians will share their community planning and development experiences as part of Cultivating Community: A Plan for Union County’s Future. The program will be at the Carriage Corner Restaurant in Mifflinburg, moderated by WKOK’s Mark Lawrence, and is open to the public. The session will be moderated and those in attendance will have an opportunity to ask questions. Featured will be James Cowhey, AICP, Executive Director of the Lancaster County Planning Commission; Bill Fontana, Executive Director of the Pennsylvania Downtown Center and John Trant, Jr., AICP, Esq., Chief Strategic Planning Officer for Cranberry Township.

Reid Ewing will provide an overview the new book Growing Cooler, its findings and its implications for urban planning, land development, and public policy. This book was developed as part of the Urban Land Institute's sustainability initiative, in cooperation with Smart Growth America, Center for Clean Air Policy, and National Center for Smart Growth Research and Education. His talk will cover the evidence on urban development and its impacts on driving, and policy and program changes forthcoming at the local, regional, state, and federal levels to make green, compact neighborhoods more available and more affordable.
